LOCATION is one of Moulin de la Roque's best features. It is exceptionally well located in the heart of Provence just minutes from its most treasured and beautiful sights, villages, cities, beaches and vineyards. Enjoy visiting fabulous markets in one of the nearby villages of St Remy de Provence or Isle-sur-la-Sorgue where Provence comes alive with flowers, fresh foods, traditional fabrics, tiles, pottery, arts, wine, olive oil and antiques.
SAINT-REMY-DE-PROVENCE, GORDES, ROUSSILLON...experience the charm of these and so many other charming medieval villages, all just a short drive away in the Luberon area (the subject of Peter Mayle's famous book, A Year in Provence ). You definitely will not want to miss the spectacular scenery as you hike in the nearby forests of Luberon, the mountains of Les Alpilles, and the gorgeous canyons of the Ardèche. Also close by are miles of vineyards in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and the Côtes du Rhône.
AVIGNON, ARLES, NIMES, AIX-EN-PROVENCE, MARSEILLE...among the most fascinating of the larger Provencal cities are also easily accessible. Avignon, a charming walled city that was the seat of the Pope during the 14th century, is less than 8 miles. You can be in the ancient Roman cities of Arles or Nîmes, both known for interesting Romanesque history and architecture, in less than 30 minutes. And, only an hour down the road are the cities of Aix-en-Provence or the Mediterranean seaport, Marseille. In July and August you will enjoy the famous annual arts and music festivals in several of these wonderful cities.
COTE D'AZUR (Mediterranean coast) is only 60 miles if the coast is what interests you. There you can enjoy a delicious lunch in the quaint seaside village of Cassis or just relax on the beach. Further up the coast you can reach Cannes and Nice in less than half a day.
ACCESSIBLE, the MOULIN is a 2 ½ hour train ride from Paris on the TGV which leaves from the Charles de Gaulle airport direct to Avignon. If you prefer, you can also fly into Marseille, just 45 miles from Noves or arrive in Nice which is about three hours. There is a smaller airport located in Avignon.
